About Kathmandu District

Kathmandu District is the smallest district in Nepal by area but the most populous. The district lies in the bowl-shaped Kathmandu Valley, surrounded by four mountain ranges: Shivapuri, Phulchoki, Nagarjun, and Chandragiri. The Bagmati River flows through the district.

The district is home to seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the Kathmandu Valley, including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), and Changu Narayan. These sites represent the rich cultural heritage of the Kathmandu Valley spanning over 2,000 years.

Geography and Climate

Kathmandu District experiences a subtropical highland climate with warm, wet summers and cool, dry winters. The monsoon season brings most of the annual rainfall between June and September. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) offer the most pleasant weather.
