Three Passes Trek Map
The Three Passes trek is the most complete circuit of the Everest region, crossing the Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La passes, all above 5,300 m, and visiting Gokyo, Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.
Key Facts
The Route
From Lukla and Namche Bazaar the circuit heads west to Thame and over the Renjo La to the turquoise Gokyo Lakes. It then crosses the Ngozumpa glacier and the Cho La to Lobuche, visits Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar from Gorak Shep, and finishes over the Kongma La to Chhukung before descending via Dingboche and Namche.
Many trekkers do the circuit anticlockwise instead, crossing Kongma La first. Either way it is a long, demanding trek that needs good fitness and careful acclimatisation.
Permits
You need a Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit, the same as for Everest Base Camp.
Where It Is
The trek lies in Solukhumbu District. See the Nepal trekking map for other routes.
