Annapurna Base Camp Trek Map
The Annapurna Base Camp trek climbs from the foothills near Pokhara into the Annapurna Sanctuary, a glacial amphitheatre ringed by Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and Machapuchare.
Key Facts
The Route
Most itineraries start at Nayapul or Kimche, a drive from Pokhara, and climb through Gurung villages such as Ghandruk and Chhomrong. Beyond Chhomrong the trail enters the narrow Modi Khola gorge, passing Bamboo and Deurali, before opening out at Machapuchare Base Camp and the final climb to Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 m.
The return usually follows the same trail to Chhomrong and then drops to the hot springs at Jhinu Danda. Many trekkers combine the route with Ghorepani Poon Hill for a sunrise view over the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges.
Permits
You need an Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) permit. Check current rules on guides and trekker registration before you go.
Avalanche Risk
The section between Deurali and Machapuchare Base Camp is exposed to avalanches after heavy snow, especially from January to March. Ask locally about conditions before continuing.
Where It Is
